American Airlines often provides travelers with a meal voucher if their flight is delayed, or if they missed a connecting flight. Depending on how your AA meal voucher was issued, it may contain a QR code and/or credit card number, CCV, and zip code to use just like a credit card. While they are similar, they do not work anywhere and you can’t swipe or tap them like a physical card. American Airlines meal vouchers are intended to work at the airport.
Where can American meal vouchers be used?
American meal vouchers can be used at most airport restaurants, for food and non-alcoholic beverages. Your meal voucher should work at the following restaurants:
- Auntie Anne’s
- Banh Shop
- Buffalo Wild Wings
- California Pizza Kitchen
- Dickey’s Barbecue Pit
- Einstein Bros. Bagels
- Panda Express
- Panera Bread
- Shake Shack
- TGI Fridays
Most sit-down restaurants also accept American meal vouchers, but ask the host if they take them before being seated.
Can AA meal vouchers be used outside the airport?
American Airlines meal vouchers are not intended to be used outside of the airport, however, many customers find success loading them into a food vendor’s mobile app (like Starbucks or Chick-fil-A). This is helpful to know because meal voucher funds expire on the stated “Redeem By” date at midnight Eastern time zone.
How To Add American Meal Voucher to Starbucks App
While not officially supported, many people find success loading their meal vouchers into the Starbucks mobile app, which allows them to use it later (outside of the airport).
- Open the Starbucks app on your phone
- Tap add funds
- Select your meal voucher amount (such as $15)
- Add a new payment method
- Enter your AA meal voucher payment info
